Frequently
Asked Questions about Enduradeck
What exactly is this stamped concrete?
Simply put, we install concrete the usual way, except that
when the timing is right, we take flexible patterned “stamps” and
we place them on the concrete and make impressions in it. We
then finish the look of the stamp by adding color stains
and finish the job off with a sealer.
How is that different from a stamped
overlay?
An overlay is a thin layer of concrete; usually 1/4” to
3/8” thick placed over existing concrete and then stamped
using the same stamps we use on the new concrete. We
then finish the concrete by adding color and sealer, just
like with the new concrete.
Wouldn’t concrete make your decks
pretty heavy?
Yes, our decks will be heavier. So, we have had to
come up with construction methods that address this. These
construction methods are part of Tom Pruitt’s DeckStone
system. Essentially, we build a soundly engineered
support system that will be a permanent part of your deck. We
back that support structure with a temporary support system
that is constructed to support the wet cement until the point
it has cured. We then remove the temporary support
and finish your deck.
Ok, sounds great, but what if something
goes wrong?
We have a two-year warranty on our workmanship. However,
we do not guarantee against concrete cracks.
Whoa, why don’t you guarantee against
cracking?
Concrete is a breathing substance and as such can crack
from a variety of different environmental factors unrelated
to the professionalism of the installers. Simply put,
as sound business practice it would be foolish for us to
guarantee against cracks. Having said that, 95% of
all cracks in concrete are due to poor installation. Most
of the time, the installers fail to honor what are known
as expansion joints. We will insist on putting expansion
joints exactly where they are needed to prevent cracking
and keep your deck looking great. In addition, we use
high quality concrete products which include concrete fibers
designed to minimize cracking. The other good news
is that we can repair cracks at a nominal cost in the unlikely
event that cracking occurs.
So, concrete can crack, why would I go
with that over wood?
Wood splinters, wood bows, wood rots, insects like to make
homes in wood, you will find that wood decks also come
with their un-guaranteed risks. One of those un-guaranteed
risks is the fact that you will have to replace that wood
at some point in the future. Wood requires regular
treatment in order to extend its life. The ancient Greeks
built beautiful temples and monuments out of concrete, not
wood. That’s why many of those beautiful temples
and monuments can still be seen there today.
Point taken, I guess these concrete decks
cost more right?
Yes. Not to sound smart, but you’ve heard the
old saying “you get what you pay for?” It’s
all about VALUE. Long-term solution = higher initial
investment.
You’ve pointed out that these decks
are low-maintenance, how so?
After your new EnduraDeck is installed, it will require
only minimal long-term maintenance. Our stamped concrete
is sealed using high-quality sealer material. The sealer
is designed to not only bring out the color and luster of
your new deck, but also to protect it against the elements. It
is recommended that new sealer be applied every 3-5 years
if your deck is in direct sunlight and every 5 to 7 years
if it is not. We offer sealing service to our new deck
customers for a nominal fee. Cleaning of your new deck
is easy with simple applications of water and a broom. We
do not recommend the use of soap as this may leave a residue
on your deck that could diminish the luster of your decorative
concrete. The use of a pressure washer is acceptable,
provided the washer isn’t applied to the concrete
so intensely as to bring up the sealer.
Is there a per-square-foot price for
these decks?
The cost of your deck will depend greatly upon what you
want in terms of size, location, and features. Our sales
folks will explain pricing to you during your first consultation
and a cost estimate will be given to you prior to your second
consultation. We strive to ensure every homeowner understands
how we operate before we show up with our hammers and trowels. Both
parties will agree to terms prior to the first shovel sinking
into the dirt.
Ok, I’m sold, how long before my
new EnduraDeck gets installed?
Due to demand, once you have decided on a new EnduraDeck,
installation will be scheduled about 4 to 6 weeks out. The
weather does play a role in our ability to build and pour
concrete. If we experience delays, we keep in constant
touch with our customers to update them on scheduling. We
do our very best to install our decks when we say we will,
but delays are a given in the construction industry. We
love our understanding customers.
How do I get in touch with EnduraDeck
to schedule my new project?
There are three ways you can contact us to schedule a consultation. You
